Unchecked checkbox

I’d like to include a mandatory checkbox in the booking form, so that people have to that they have read our privacy policy. I tried it with a custom field which worked fine so far. The problem is that it is automatically checked. Is there a way to have it unchecked so that the user has to click the box?

I use it too for a gdpr approval checkbox, and by default it is not selected (the way I coded it).
Can you show me a screenshot of the custom field definition? And/or a test-website?

I just tried it again and now it works.
I put “I” as field description and put “have read the privacy policy etc.” directly into the form.
