The rss feed code is perfectly ok: when there are no events, the feed has no "item" entries. A correctly implemented RSS reader should be ok with this.
But see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4009114/how-to-make-an-empty-rss-feed , it seems google reader (and maybe others), don't like it when the feed is item-less. So I added a dummy item if the feed is empty. No extra text can be added though, since that would assume there's an actual entry.

I didn't have a lot done one the site, so I deleted it and started over. It looks like there was something leftover from the Event Manager plugin that was causing it. None of the plugins are conflicting.

Well, I know that "Events Manager" uses the post meta method, so that's possible. But still it doesn't explain why activating EME causes this issue then ... Maybe some wildcard hook they use?

Nope. All plugins except EME were disabled. Same error shows up.

I'm wondering if the old Event Manager (which isn't as nice as EME) left something in the postmeta table.

EME doesn't use any call to wp_postmeta at all. Maybe the old "Events Manager" plugin has some things that might cause this? And for the record: EME (as in "Events Made Easy") is the follow-up from "Events Manager Extended", not "Events Manager".
Deactivate EME, remove all tables refering to 'Events Manager', and reactivate EME. That should help you along.

First, I had Event Manager installed, I uninstalled it and installed EME.

Then, the last menu (whatever menu that is) on the page gives the following error:

WordPress database error: [Table 'wp_database.wp_postmeta' doesn't exist]
SELECT COUNT(meta_id) FROM wp_postmeta WHERE meta_key='_menu_item_menu_item_parent' AND meta_value='27'

The error repeats (with a different meta_value) for each menu item. Then, after x errors, the menu is displayed.

If I disable EME, the menu functions. When I enable EME, menu gives the error.

Hi, I am using the rss feed for events but in the feed when there are no events it shows:

"An error has occurred; the feed is probably down. Try again later."

I did just want to change this text to something like:

"Thank you for looking but at this time there are no events listed, please check back later."

Rather than the site looking like it's broken when it's not but couldn't find this text in the files ("An error....") or is there a way for the feed to show the text I want to instead of the error text.

Thanks

That indicates a javascript problem, probably caused by another plugin interfering with wordpress jquery. Look in your browser error console to see the error. To fix: disable all other plugings and try again, then enable one by one until you find the guilty one.

That's the first one that stopped me -- the default install includes very little of the available features on the Event page.

If anyone else wants, here's my current "Default single event format" using many, not all, of the available codes (I use the common US date formatting, e.g. "Monday, March 19, 2012"). I also included some conditional formatting to suppress non-RSVP and non-WP-user items, and the iCal, Google Calendar, and Edit This Event tweaks:

<b><p style="float: left; width: 32%; text-align: left;">#D, #M. #j, #Y -- #_12HSTARTTIME to #_12HENDTIME</p>

Correction, the events page is working correctly now with the latest code. I must have made an error when manually changing the code, but a simple cut and paste solved this.
Thanks for your fast help Franky, you have developed an excellent plugin!

Definately progress, but now there are two calendars on the page.
I could use CSS to hide the top calendar as they have different ID's (eme-calendar-177 and eme-calendar-152), but this would add to data usage, any better ideas?

Try if this change fixes it for you:

http://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/518773/events-made-easy

otherwise: what's in the header of your theme causing this? Do you call the_content() there?

Hey folks,
The calendar on my events page is being called in the header of my theme. This happened since a theme update, what can I do to fix this? Except from reverting to my old theme.. I have considered that option and I have put too much work into the current theme to do that.

The page at fault:

Thanks. I thought that only applied to single events. :)

Did you change/set the event and/or location settings in the EME settings menu using placeholders? The placeholders are there for you to decide what you want to be shown and how. For example, the #_MAP placeholder can be used in "Default single location page format" to show the map. Read about all the possible placeholders here: http://www.e-dynamics.be/wordpress/?cat=23

Hey Team, I have another issue. My locations aren't showing on the public end of the site. I have full details entered in the admin panel, it shows the map and all the details etc, however when I assign it to an event, the only details it shows is the town. No map, no address etc. Any ideas?

Site yet again is http://www.hukanuiyouth.com
